I was able to work alongside service designers and industrial designers to research and envision new opportunities for Swiffer during this collaborative course with Procter & Gamble. We began by visiting different environments and seeing how surfaces were cleaned.
We conducted several interviews and observational studies. Our initial goal was to explore the definition of clean and the perceptions that surrounded it. We also stepped through service blueprints to further explore the frontstage and backstage actions within the industries that Swiffer was targeting.
After the initial research, we ideated concepts for the different industries. I was able to facilitate a session where I guided the other designers through different parts of frog's collective action toolkit. During the session, we stepped through different user journeys and asked multiple questions to decipher what additional opportunities existed.
Through our first major critique with Procter & Gamble, we learned that we needed to seek unique opportunities that went beyond reinventing cleaning tools. We revisited Swiffer products themselves and explored the target industries by splitting into teams.
I was placed on the hotel team. We decided to focus on how the Swiffer brand could redefine clean within the hotel space. We made use of SCAMPER, additional observational studies, and other tools to create a set of products and services. At the end of the quarter, I presented my team's solutions to the representatives from Procter & Gamble.
